Web Development Basics - You Must Have Your Own Web Site

There are hundreds of ways to make money on the Internet. Choosing a way that best suites you is easy. Simply determine what your interests and strengths are and then find a way to benefit from that using the Internet. However, with that you must have your own web site.

After coming to the conclusion of what and how you will make money online, you need your own website. Do you shop EBay? If not, browse the site. Become familiar with it. The serious EBay sellers have their own site to sell their products. They understand that yes indeed EBay is a great source of making money, but they also understand that they have to have their own site.

Having their own site, means that they can sell more, (without fees of course), they have a place to direct visitors, and they know having their own site makes them seem more professional as well as more honest and trustworthy with their business. Having your own website is vital for the success of your business. Even us simple writers, must have our own sites to promote ourselves, provide samples of our works, and provide a friendly personal touch with our clients.

It is a must to have your own website. With so many purchases, services, information, and tools on the web, having your own website will set you apart from the others. It will add that personal touch that does become lost in cyberspace. Your website may be the only form of interaction that you have with clients, make sure that you provide them with a service they can "reach out and touch". The only way to do that in this technology world of ours is to have your own website.

Tips For 2007 On How to Web 2.0 Your Website's Design

1. Fresh, Crisp and Clean Layout

Think Zen. It's tranquil. It's balanced. It's refreshing. Websites employing web 2.0 design is a breath of fresh air to the clutter-styled content of most websites for many years.

Don't overwhelm your visitors by presenting content in an un-suave way. How many times have we been discouraged to read a website that has too much going on, all at the same time?

Instead, draw visitor's attention by presenting one meaningful content at a time. It pays to show courtesy. It's delightful to visitors when you just breeze them through what you want to say rather than shoving everything down their throats.

2. Bright and Cheery Colors

If you haven't noticed, a cheerful aura has somehow been ushered into the Internet. Web 2.0 sites like Flickr, Odeo, Flock and others have the habit of using bright colors.

Aside from inspiring a playful and happy mood to visitors, use them to draw attention to important elements of the page. Colors also create solid sections to organize content into header, main content, navigation, footer and other parts.

3. Rounded Shapes

The stiff and formal, edgy and techie corporate look is out. In contrast, un-boxed shapes create an atmosphere of friendliness and being-yourself. In addition, the design tends to look creative and youthful.

4. Vectorize and Take Down the Stock Photos

Almost all websites that has a product to offer uses photos of wide-grinning people in corporate jumpsuits. You'll find fewer and fewer of these photos in Web 2.0 sites nowadays. Some still use stock photos but they are mostly exhilarating views of nature.

Instead use smart vector shapes for icons, logos and web elements as imagery to your site.

5. Readable Text

Gone are the days of the smaller your text, the higher the techno-rating your website would have. Start using large text now. It's like speaking clearly compared to mumbling your words.

The proper use of typeface size while bolding important parts like headings is like taking your visitors by the hand to guide them on how to read your content. It creates good impression when you make visitors feel that you designed your website for them.

6. Simple and Obvious Navigation

Navigating through your website should be as simple and obvious to a 5 year old. It should clearly show where they are now and where else can they go. Once again use color and text size to emphasize links in your site. Provide clear instructions as well on how to use features and options.

7. Polished

Interfaces of Web 2.0 sites are simply cool. The aesthetic feels just right. Through proper use of gradients, reflection and 3D render you can create web elements that are almost real to the touch and invites visitors to just click.

Domain Name – An Introduction

A domain name is a name that identifies one or more IP address. These are mainly used in URLs to identify particular web page. Domain names are a key component to a web presence.

Basically, domain names convert the numerical format that computers use to identify a website into a text based name that is easy for human users to understand and recall.

The domain registration market is now very competitive with many thousands of services operating around the world.

Domain names now have many forms known as Top Level Domain Types or TLD's. The best known TLD remains .com but regional names are a rapidly growing area such as .co.uk's

Discount Domains is a leading UK domain name registration service and offers web hosting and web design services as well as domains.

The various chief type of domain name:

.gov - Government agencies

.edu - Educational institutions

.org - Organizations (nonprofit)

.mil - Military

.com - commercial business

.net - Network organizations

.ca - Canada

.th – Thailand

.in- Indian

.info- Information

.COM: - Short for .commercial. Domain names with the .com extension are by far the most popular, and can be purchased by any individual or business.

.NET: - Short for .network, this domain extension was originally designed to be used by technical Web sites. However, domains using this extension can be registered by anyone.

.ORG: - Short for .organization. Originally designated for non-profit firms and any other organizations that did not fit under the .com or .net extension, any individual or business may now register a .org domain name.

Domain name can also be assigned using country extensions. Each country has its own domain extension, for example for India it is "in", for Canada it is "ca", for Japan it is ".jp" etc..
In addition to this, there is other domain name that has been designed for specific use only and they are not country specific and are accompanied by certain restrictions. Despite, the above-mentioned categories of domain names, .com, .net and .org are typically the most visible and talked-about extensions, they are not the only ones available for use. From a functional perspective, country-level domains work just as well as any TLDs, and alternative extensions work just as well. Therefore, don't necessarily settle for a mediocre TLD when you can get a better one using a different extension.

What is the Difference Between Link Farms and Web Directory

There are a number of key differences between link farms and web directories. The most prominent difference between the two is that web directories are valued by the search engines, while link farms are considered to be spammy. Link farms are generally built by webmasters who wish to cheat the search engines. They try to jam a bunch of links on a page with the hope that it will rank well. In most cases, it doesn't, and the search engines may ban websites that feature this. Web directories are much more legitimate. They are designed to help people find what they are looking for on the web.

A web directory could be likened to the traditional yellow phone book directory. With a web directory, you have a bunch of websites that are placed in various categories. When you click on the category page, you will have a list of websites. Each website will have a title that comes in the form of a link, and they will all have descriptions which tell you what the site is about. By reading these descriptions, you will be able to determine whether or not you're interested in visiting the website. Link farms are the exact opposite. They tend to have a bunch of links on a page that don't have any descriptions. If you use the Internet frequently, it is likely that you've come across these websites.

They are easy to spot because they don't have any information that is useful. They are generally a bunch of random links on a page that will take you to different places on the web. Because search engines are interested in helping humans find what they are looking for on the web, it is easy to see why they look down on link farms. If a search engine has too many link farms in its index, people will become annoyed when trying to find useful information, and they will eventually begin looking for other search engines to use. Many blackhat SEO people use link farms in an attempt to get to the top of the search engines.

While this is great for them, it is not so great for the search engines. And this is precisely why search engines ban or penalize sites that have link farms. It is bad for their business, and it can hinder them from being successful. Web directories can be thought of as mini search engines. The main thing that separates the two is that many web directories will be edited by humans rather than an advanced algorithm or neural network. Web directories assist search engines because they make it easy for them to to crawl websites and add them to the index.
